چکیده
We report the angiographic appearance of a posterior communicating artery aneurysm with a fistula to the cavernous sinus, which had been misinterpreted as a direct carotid-cavernous fistula, on which endovascular repair was unsuccessfully attempted.

Successful Transarterial Embolization of a Posttraumatic Fistula Between a Posterior Communicating Artery Aneurysm and the Cavernous Sinus: A Case Report.
Posterior communicating artery (PCoA) aneurysm-cavernous sinus fistulae are an extremely rare complication of head injury . The treatment of PCoA aneurysm-cavernous sinus fistulae has not been well described. A 27-year-old man was admitted with a retroocular bruit and blurred vision of the left eye seven months after a severe head injury. We report the angiographic appearance of a posterior com...
متن کاملIatrogenic Carotid-Cavernous Fistula after Stent Assisted Coil Embolization of Posterior Communicating Artery Aneurysm
Stent assisted coiling (SAC) is a useful technique for the treatment of wide necked complex aneurysm. As the frequency of SAC increases, stent-related complications such as thromboembolism, aneurysm rupture, and vessel rupture have been reported. However, to the best of our knowledge, carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) after SAC has never been reported. The authors experienced a case of direct CCF...
متن کاملImproved localization of carotid cavernous fistula during angiography.
The use of detachable balloons for treating carotid cavernous sinus fistulas is increasing [1-6]. Its success requires exact localization of the fistula site, which may not always be possible with standard angiographic techniques [7]. Rapid opacification of the venous side of the fistula is apt to obscure the point of arteriovenous communication before it is precisely delineated . Rapid filming...
متن کاملFistula of the posterior communicating artery and cavernous sinus.
A 24-year-old man was admitted with conjunctival hyperemia of the left eye and progressive chemosis and proptosis 1 month after a head injury. An angiogram showed an arterial-cavernous sinus fistula of the posterior communicating artery, which was treated with minicoils. The atypical configuration, transvenous embolization, and unusual nature of the communication suggested that communication de...
متن کاملOccipital lobe infarction: a rare presentation of bilateral giant cavernous carotid aneurysms: a case report
BACKGROUND Cavernous carotid aneurysm (CCA) represents 2-9% of all intracranial aneurysms and 15% of internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms; additionally, giant aneurysms are those aneurysms that are > 25 mm in size. Bilateral CCAs account for 11-29% of patients and are commonly associated with structural weaknesses in the ICA wall, secondary to systemic hypertension. CCAs are considered benig...
